Vintage Fashion Show: Event Branding
February 2024 featured a fateful turning point in my career. On a seemingly ordinary day, I found myself visiting the Skyline Club, formerly located in Southfield Town Center, where a meeting was underway. The gathering was hosted by The Friends of Southfield - Public Arts commission, marking the initial steps in planning a fashion show aimed at raising funds for the city. Recognizing an exciting opportunity, I volunteered to create the event’s branding, knowing it would not only make a meaningful contribution to the cause but also serve as a valuable addition to my portfolio.Over the following week, I developed three branding options for the City of Southfield Mayor and the President of the Public Arts Commission to review. Ultimately, they selected a design featuring a striking fashion model paired with a dynamic layout of shapes, symbolizing growth, elegance and movement. The color palette was inspired by the chosen image and the final design included a logo that I created specifically for the event. Due to time and budget constraints, given the event’s fundraising nature, I had to rely on a stock photo; but I’m confident the final design captured attention and delivered the desired impact.

With the branding and a first flyer completed, the Public Arts Commission began promoting the event in full swing. Suddenly, my design was everywhere: Featured on the city’s official social media platforms, displayed at City Hall and the Southfield Town Center, and even showcased on a local TV channel. My next task was designing the event tickets. I was provided with the required dimensions and formats, ensuring one version was prepared for print and another for digital use across TV, social media, and other platforms.

As the event day drew closer, I was tasked with designing the program. It was a simple two-page layout, containing all the essential information about the event, and was crafted in line with the established branding guidelines.

As for the final event, I’m happy to report that it was a great success, attracting around 150 attendees. I received positive feedback from the members of the Public Arts Commission, who expressed that my contribution played a key role in the event's success. Additionally, this project led to the City of Southfield hiring me as a freelance graphic designer for future projects. Some of these projects are currently featured on this website, feel free to explore them!
